For years, Physicians Formula was one of those brands we asked our family and friends to scope out on their trips stateside. But as of June, it joined the dizzyingly glamorous roll call of beauty brands that have finally launched on this side of the pond (check out my posts on NYX and Wet n Wild).
Yes, from last month, America’s most popular bronzer brand is available at Irish chemists nationwide. It’s pricier than other chemist brands – prices range between €10.90 and €20 – but there are several mitigating factors that make it worth the spend.
The brand pioneered products for sensitive skin – the founder, Dr Frank Crandall, developed the range for his wife, who was allergic to most other cosmetics. More than fifty new products are developed each year, all hypoallergenic and fragrance, paraben and pesticide-free.
I was given a few bits and bobs to try out, and here's what I made of them:
- I’m enjoying the Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner palette – I have it in Nude, and for €15.90 you get a nice selection of highlight and lid shades in a very wearable shade range. If you’re a matte fan you know by the name to keep away, but I find this a handy little number for a one step, mid-week eye.
- The Organic Wear Fake Out Mascara, €14.90, doesn’t deliver quite as dramatic results as the name might have you believe. It’s a good daytime pick though, creating decent volume and length and will be a brilliant choice if you have sensitive skin – the formula is 100% natural, 70% organic and free of all known irritants.
- I love the idea of the Season to Season Bronzer, €19.90: the formula is fab, and the shades are great for paler skintones. Here, I’m wearing them swirled together in place of blusher but, day to day, it’s not what I’d personally pick – there’s a fair bit of shimmer, and I like my bronzers matte.
- My favourite piece? Defiitely the Eye Booster liquid liner pen, which is easy to use and longlasting – as well as promising to enhance your lashes with time. It delivers a glossy black line that wings out nicely and the packaging is designed so that the product won’t dry out – a bugbear of mine with other liners of this type.
Tried and loved anything from the brand? Tell me in the comments!
