Airport Shopping at The Loop: Why I Love It, What I Bought and Being A Brand Ambassador
Everyone knows that a holiday begins with a spot of airport shopping, am I right? And that money spent in the airport doesn’t count – just like the calories in those mid-flight cheese and ham toasties.
On my (fairly regular) trips through Dublin Airport, I always factor in some beauty browsing at The Loop – but as I discovered recently, there’s a lot more on offer than I thought.
For starters, you don’t have to squeeze in your shopping before your flight. If you’re travelling in the EU, The Loop - that's the name for airport shopping in Dublin and Cork - offers a Shop & Collect service for both airports, where you can buy online up to 48 hours before flying, and collect your booty after you get home (browse their beauty bargains here but remember, you need to have booked your flights to buy).
I pre-ordered a few MAC bits before heading off to Amsterdam, and was delighted with the convenience - and the prices! I nabbed Woodwinked Eyeshadow for €13.60, Stud brow pencil for €14.90 and my first 217 blending brush for €20.40.
Y’see, not only is the airport a mecca for travel exclusive kits and limited editions, but prices across the board are cheaper than you’ll pay elsewhere. Fragrance is at least 20% cheaper than in shops or chemists, while you’ll save between 15% and 40% on makeup and skincare. (The bigger discounts are on the Best Buy products, which are monthly special offers – in June, you could pick up Clarins’ excellent Moisture Rich Body Lotion for €20, as opposed to the usual €43, for a 400 ml bottle.)
With most of my shopping done in advance, I had time to do two things: snap up Chanel’s Illusion D’Ombre in Mirage (one of the few brands that’s not available online), and scope out the services.
Did you know that MAC offers a complimentary, walk-in makeup menu? They’ll transform your eyes, lips or face and apply your false lashes for you too – I hopped up on a stool and was transformed within 5 minutes. Check out the final look in my video below.
I also discovered the Clarins treatment room, right at the back of the beauty hall in Terminal 2. Give them a call on 01 9440759 to book a treatment before you fly – a 20 minute facial is free with the purchase of 3 items, including a face product.
More freebies are to be found at the stand-alone Jo Malone shop, where not only can you avail of amazing discounts but you can also snag yourself a free hand and arm massage, which is a heavenly way to spend a few minutes pre-flight.
Outside of the beauty hall, there are shops like Victoria’s Secret, Kurt Geiger and Longchamps to peruse – the full list of shops is available online – before you celebrate your savings with a glass of something bubbly and chilled.
Can you tell I've spent many happy hours there? Travel, beauty and, let's face it, shopping are among my very favourite things to do - which is why I couldn't be happier that I'm one of four new Brand Ambassadors for The Loop. I’m really excited to share all the news and special offers with you guys and if you watched my video above, you better bet I'll also be lobbying for our very own airport spa!
Do you enjoy an airport shopping spree – and what’s been your latest pre-flight purchase?
