We see so little sunshine in this country that it's a pity not to take advantage while we can. But with our mercurial weather, that means a little prep in order to whip off the opaques and go bare-legged at a moment's notice. Here's my little routine for silky smooth, summer-ready legs.
ONE: Despite laser hair removal on my legs (which I would highly recommend), there's still a little patchy growth - so Veet's wax strips have come in very handy.
They smell nice, they don't dry out your skin - there's shea butter in the formula - and they're easy to use, as well as being effective. €7.99 will get you 20 strips and four perfect-finish wipes.
Waxing not for you? Try the hair removal cream, €8.49, instead.
TWO: Scholl's new Velvet Smooth Express Pedi, €49.99, is the best home pedicure tool on the market. Similar to the Micro Pedi, but more robust, this battery-powered hard skin remover buffs away hard skin in minutes - even in stubborn areas like the heels.
The Velvet Smooth Intense Serum, €8.99, is the perfect follow-up - there's some great stuff in there, including hyaluronic acid to attract and lock in moisture.
THREE: A bright, longlasting toe job (ooerr, missus) is very cheery in the sun. The CND Vinylux range - from the makers of Shellac - is a weeklong polish system for use in salons or at home.
Bicycle Yellow (seen here) and Electric Orange (which I'm wearing in the first pic) both look amazing with a tan. They're €11.95 for the polish or topcoat, €17.95 if you purchase both together.
FOUR: Lastly, I love a good body oil in place of a lotion or butter and, with L'Occitane, I'm totally spoiled for choice. Their Almond body oils are amazing but for general all-round versatility their aptly named Fabulous Oil, €34, is my current fave.
Lightly fragranced and quickly absorbed, this nourishing blend can be used on the hair and face as well as on limbs - and a spritz or two apres-sun is especially lovely.
I'm still rocking a bit of Tenerife tan but otherwise I might add a bit of leg make-up to the mix - the water resistant and easy-to-use formulas of both Sally Hansen and Rimmel are fab.
And remember the suncream!
