If you watched my first attempt at a weekly vlog you’ll know we spent last weekend discovering the best of what Cork City had to offer. It was a lovely relaxing time and we were based right in the heart of things, at the Clarion on Lapps Quay.
Overlooking the boardwalk and the river Lee, our 4th floor room had a balcony with amazing views out over the city and we were in walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go. (There’s a room tour and a little bit of a city tour in the video if you fancy checking it out.)
After a hectic week a little bit of R&R was firmly on the cards so Saturday morning was spent cocooned in the Essence Spa. It was a bit of a struggle persuading Mr Fluff to give my favourite hobby a second chance and I’ll let him tell you why, but eventually I lured him in with tales of free fruit, herbal tea and cookies. You can take the boy out of Scotland…
My massage was heaven. It was filled with those long, firm sweeping movements that cut through tension like a knife through butter. You know the ones – and if you don’t, you should get yourself to Cork, and fast!
My therapist, Aideen, was fab – she zeroed in on a nasty knot that seems to have taken up permanent residence under my left shoulder blade, and worked it into near-submission. I’d have stayed on that bed for weeks - but a dip in the pool and some time in the thermal suite soon soothed my separation anxiety...
SPA TREATMENTS FOR MEN: MR FLUFF REPORTS
Since a profoundly disturbing experience in Budapest a few years back, which unfortunately hit the newspapers here in Ireland, I have had grave misgivings about returning to a spa but as a special favour to you dear readers I decided to face my fears. So with a mixture of trepidation and excitement I walked into the Spa in the Clarion Hotel Cork City for a back massage along with a facial for men and I’m happy to report that I am very happy that I did. The lovely Italian lady who greeted me put me at ease immediately and soon it was like I’d never been to Hungary (oh if only that were the case!).
The back massage was extremely relaxing and having been doing a bit of swimming recently was just the job for taking away some aches and pains I had, particularly in my neck and shoulders.
The facial I was slightly more dubious about if I’m honest but again it was very pleasant, relaxing and indeed beneficial with Mrs Fluff commenting that I ‘looked 5 years younger’. Now I don’t know about that but all I can say is that I needed ID for the pub later that night…true story.
