Well, hello, gorgeous.
Another April launch, Chanel's Perfection Lumière Velvet Foundation, €39.50, has been welcomed to my foundation wardrobe with open arms.
The formula initially took me rather by surprise: I was expecting something similar to Chanel's Perfection Lumière, my long-wear foundation of choice. But this has much more in common with Vitalumière Aqua, though pitched at normal or combo to oily complexions.
The first clue was in the packaging: instead of a chic glass bottle, Perfection Lumière Velvet comes in a portable, plastic tube - a sleek, all-black version of the beige and black Vitalumière Aqua.
Much thinner and more runny than Perfection Lumière, this has that whole lightweight, second-skin finish going on; while at the same time, mattifying oiliness and shine - without looking powdery or obvious on the face.
Because it's so fluid and fine, it blends really quickly and effortlessly into the skin: a few drops dabbed over my face, a swirl of a buffing brush and suddenly I'm 20 again. Or at the very least a softer, smoother, less shiny and more evenly toned version of ancient old me.

Wondering about wear-time? Well there's more good news here: it sees me through nicely to the end of the working day - and for any desk-to-dancefloor emergencies (hey, we newly minted 20 year-olds sure live the life), it layers up nicely without any caking or patchiness.
While Perfection Lumière remains my go-to base for special occasions or big nights out, Perfection Lumière Velvet has quickly become a day-to-day favourite. As evidenced by the fact that I'm planning a purchase in a deeper shade: I can't wear the shade I was given, B20, while I still have my holiday tan - but I just can't wait to get this on my face again...
