If there's one texture - or textile - the beauty world can't get enough of right now, it's velvet. On our eyes, on our lips or on our faces, this almost powdery, soft and modern matte finish has a chic, expensive and completely of-the-moment vibe.
The bolder, the better is my rule for wearing velvet on the lips. A bright, opaque matte lip not only looks amazing but has amazing powers of distraction - magically diverting eyes from tired roots or less than perfect skin.
Wearing Matte Mandarin |
Three years in development, the brand has put in the work to create a new-gen matte that marries intensity of colour with great weartime and comfortable hydration.
Full shade range: Matte Crimson, Matte Mandarin, Matte Peony, Matte Petal, Matte Magenta, Matte Beauty, Matte Plum, Matte Suede |
I've had an advance peek at the range and there are several reasons why this June launch is worth getting worked up over:
- The shade range is gorgeous: choose from eight shades of bright but wearable colours that includes a stunning crimson, fab hot pink and my favourite, Matte Mandarin, which is pictured above. There are also a couple of more natural shades in the mix, namely Matte Beauty and Matte Suede.
- The formula is comfortable, creamy and longlasting - it's matte, but there's still sufficient moisture that it won't dry out your lips
- The sleek silver packaging, with its matte and shiny swirls, feels satisfyingly high-end...
- ...except at €20, they're an affordable treat, and good value for such a really lovely lipstick.
L-R: Matte Mandarin, Matte Magenta, Matte Peony |
I'll be staking out my local Clinique counter for Matte Crimson, Matte Peony, Matte Magenta and, er, possibly Matte Plum; which shades are calling your name?
See my favourite matte lipsticks in action.
