The Pixiwoo Interview: Trends, Tools and Top Product Picks!

When Fluff and Fripperies Met Pixiwoo

Show me a makeup-lovin’ gal who doesn’t have a Pixiwoo girlcrush, and I’ll show you a great big fibber. Sam and Nic are not only the creators of the most uh-mazing beauty tutorials around but, through their bestselling Real Techniques range, they’re also the women who gave us the affordable tools to re-create those looks.

In Dublin ahead of the October-launching Nic’s Picks brush set (more on that anon), I caught up with them to talk tools, trends and the duo’s top product picks…while trying not to fangirl all up in their grill. I freakin’ love these ladies, and in person they are even lovelier and more stunning than they are on our laptop screens.

So what are they loving for A/W, then? Well, metallics will be major, and silver’s the shiny shade of choice for both Sam and Nic. Sam’s loving the winged out eye-liner look, and a touch of silver worn with rock-chick black will update the look next season.  Nic tipped the nod to the Collection Glam Crystals Gel Eyeliner, which can be dabbed over shadow for a quick and easy party look.

Product wise, Sam’s loving the Barry M lip liners (I’ll be stocking up soon) while Nic’s gone old-skool and re-purchased MAC’s Spice liner, a 90s staple and key to recreating her favourite 90s supermodel look. As a side note, her ace tutorial on this very thing has inspired most of my recent makeup.

High-end favourites for the sisters include Chanel's Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow in Poésie, #234, which Sam was wearing when we met. This neutral-shaded palette lands next week with the Autumn collection and I can attest it is indeed a thing of glorious beauty; I’ll be showing you it soon.

And Nic’s favourites? She kindly let me rummage through her travel beauty bag, which held such treasures as Bobbi Brown’s Pink Coral blush (I raved about it here), the Too Faced Cat Eyes palette, Clarins’ Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Petal Shimmer - and, of course, the Real Techniques travel brush set. A girl after my own heart, she’s also a fan of a simple bronzey eye and Bobbi Brown’s Longwear Cream Shadow in Beach Bronze also joined her on her travels.

And let’s not forget the brush set: with a sleek silver design and five limited edition brushes (check them all out here), this is one sweet-looking piece of kit. The cheek brush is set to be my latest contour crush, while the blending brush will give MAC’s 217 some pretty fierce competition. It’s available from October 1st at Boots (for £29 or approx. €34), but if I were you, I’d keep a close eye on the Fluff and Fripperies facebook page if you want to snag one sooner.
