I have big mad love for Urban Decay's Naked franchise. I fell for the first palette in a big way - not because of the gorgeous, wearable colours, or because of the fantasic formulation, but because it was so flippin' easy to create a lovely look in seconds.
The palette is so well considered and everything works together so brilliantly that, for the first time in my life, I felt I had real makeup skillz. It gave me confidence. It was foolproof and it, and therefore I, could do no wrong.
Naked 2 came along just as I'd started to hanker after cooler tones, and it was happy to deliver. With the same buttery blendability as the first palette and great colour payoff, this is every bit as lovely to use as its older sister.
The one thing that I wished for was the addition of more mattes - but then Naked Basics came along. Acting as a companion piece to the other Naked offerings, this is a lovely little set of six matte neutrals that I rely on heavily for work.
Now mere weeks after the first rumblings about Naked 3, it's here in my possession. Officially launching in Ireland on December 16th (though Debenhams on Henry Street will have it a few days early, from the 12th), I have my hands on a press sample and have been getting to know it over this weekend. So what are my first thoughts?
Sticking with a similar tin to Naked 2, the packaging is sturdy and easy to keep clean, with a ruched fabric effect on the lid. The rosy gold tin comes with a double sided brush, a large mirror and samples of the various UD eye primers.
The shadows - 12 in total, all exclusives - are of exceptional quality (well, this is Urban Decay), and there are a mix of finishes and textures, with the colour palette being slightly pink-toned overall. This news worried me till I clapped eyes on it up close - there are no Barbie hues here, just lots of wearable and flattering shades that promise to be every bit as easy to use and love as its predecessors.
Half of the palette leans slightly warm and the other slightly cool, so there should be plenty to appeal to every mood. Standout shades for me so far include Blackheart, the matte, purplish black shot through with red glitter, the pinkish-brown matte shade Nooner and the coppery shimmer, Trick. I'm also taken with the taupe-ish tones of Mugshot and Darkside. I can't wait to get to know them better.
Naked 3 is €44 but if you want it, you'd best be quick - it's going to fly off shelves. Will it feature on your Chrimbo wish list?
