ONE: Being Scottish I of course love whisky, but I’m not so blindly patriotic that I can’t appreciate a dram of the Irish stuff as well. This single grain whiskey (notice the difference in spelling from the Scottish stuff) from the Teeling Whiskey Company is really smooth and easy going but with prominent flavours (I noticed butter and honey amongst others) - making this a really top class drop at the price. (€52.95 from www.celticwhiskeyshop.com)
TWO: Beards are very much in at the moment. How do I know? Well, I’m currently sporting one so they must be, right? (And Rosemary clearly agrees.) But as wives seem to prefer the Gary Barlow designer stubble over the Santa look I favour, us men don’t get out of shaving entirely. So for keeping things from getting too wild and overgrown, Gillette's Fusion ProGlide Styler 3-in-1 Body Groomer with Beard Trimmer is just what’s needed, and as it’s waterproof you can even use it in the shower. (€25.99 from www.boots.ie)
THREE: After struggling for over year with a barely functioning iPhone 3 I was delighted when I got the new 5s which, along with a lot of other features, arguably has the best and easiest to use camera on the smartphone market. This fancy little 4-in-1 photo lens from Olloclip will make it even better; it fits into your pocket then when you want to take your pic clicks simply onto the top of the phone and boom! 4 more lens options. Fisheye, wide angle and 2 zooms. (€69.95 from www.apple.com)
FOUR: When I was younger Christmas wasn’t complete until somebody criticised my personal hygiene by giving me deodorant. And since it was a special occasion, they normally included some dodgy aftershave - Hai Karate was a regular feature. Thankfully some traditions do die out, but at the same time I still like to smell nice: this Bottega Homme fragrance from Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta is a current favourite. It’s got hints of leather and spice and while distinctive it is understated enough to make it suitable for wearing in most situations. In fact it’s so versatile that even Mrs Fluff isn’t averse to stealing it on occasions! (€63.50 for 50ml from www.debenhams.ie)
FIVE: Who doesn’t like a Christmas jumper? Well me if I’m honest but a jumper for Christmas is a different matter and with these basics from H&M you can’t go wrong. I’ve seen designer versions of the classic sweatshirt going for upwards of €100 but honestly there’s very little difference so why not get one of these for all the men in your life - perhaps in different colours, right enough... (€9.99 from www.hm.com)
