Finally it’s warm enough to talk about suncream without you mumbling “chance would be a fine thing” and giving me the side-eyes, so ta-daaa! Having tried and tested a selection in the Canary Island sun, today’s post features a trio of stand-out SPFs that will stop you looking like a lobster, help protect against skin cancer and prevent premature aging of the skin.
Wearing a daily facial SPF protects against visible signs of aging like no other cream, treatment, lotion or potion and, with new and improved ingredients and technologies, sun care products are no longer a chore – in fact, some of them are really quite the pleasure.

A case in point: new from NUXE this year is a range of deliciously scented sun care products that are all broad spectrum, protecting against both UVA and UVB rays.
Having got my paws on some at the launch I can attest that these not only smell wonderful but feel more like skincare than sunblock – this is a brand that really cares about how their products feel on the skin and the textures across the range are lovely and pleasant to use.
There’s a milky spray for face and body, a protective dry oil and refreshing after-sun lotion in the mix - but my favourite product of the bunch? The Delicious Cream for Face, €18.95 for 50ml. Applying and absorbing easily, this leaves skin feeling soft, velvety and nourished enough to forego your usual day cream.
It performed just as well under makeup, with none of the annoying balling or pilling of product which can sometimes occur.
Garnier’s latest innovations have also impressed me because they genuinely take the stress out of suncare. Available in SPF 20, 30 or 50, the new Ambre Solaire Dry Touch Protective Mist, €22.99, has become a firm favourite for its sheer ease of use – just spray all over for a veil of weightless, non-sticky sun protection that dries quickly and makes touch-ups a breeze.
I also loved the Ambre Solaire Wet Skin spray, €21.99, which can be applied directly to skin that’s straight from the pool or sea. No more sprinting for the towel to dry off completely - and it’s effective on dry skin as well as wet. This comes in SPF 30, 20 or 10 – I stuck with factor 30 and came home with a light, even, all-over glow.
