Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks: Bravo, Bourjois, Bravo!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks

These launched in mid April so I’m assuming that while I was languishing in my sick bed or recuperating in the sun that you all snapped up at least one, right? Right? Because - as I sneak-peeked over on Instagram -these things are brilliantly, deliciously amazing and, at €12.49, they’re an accessible treat, too.

The brand had a similar liquid lip cream back in the day and I sulked when they took it off the market. More fool me, because the new offering is about a hundred times better: more opaque, more longlasting, and with a beautiful 9-shade colour offering ranging from orangey red to hot pink – and all with that same modern, velvety matte finish.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks Pink Pong

As with any matte product you’ll need to treat lips well while you’re using these – I recommend this dynamic lip duo, along with a tasty Lush lip scrub – but they are way kinder on the lips than something this longwearing has any right to be. They also wear off evenly so that, unlike other matte liquid lipsticks in my collection (Hourglass, I’m looking at you), they don’t look like a hot, patchy mess as the colour fades.

A couple of points to note: there is some transference while you wear these – the flip side to that comfortable, longlasting formula – and they also take between 5 and 10 minutes to dry down and mattify on the lips, so do bear that in mind.

Once they’ve set, though, you get a good 5 – 8 hours weartime (depending on the level of eating/drinking/smooching you plan on getting up to).  They feel feather light but give a bright, punchy and opaquely pigmented lip in a gorgeous modern finish; I want them on my face for the foreseeable. They really are that good.

Pink Pong is my favourite – it’s what I’m wearing here (and to the Blog and Online Publishing Awards)  – though Hot Pepper, that vibrant orangey red, and the warmer pink tones of Frambourjoise are next on my list.

Are you liking, and what else would you recommend?
