Best Radiance Boosting, Exfoliating Face Masks: Merumaya, REN, Eminence

Ah, the blessings of combination skin: not only is it congestion prone and loves an aul’ breakout or ten, but it’s also quick to jump on the flakiness bandwagon, look dull and emphasise fine lines when it’s under the weather.

That’s why, along with a good deep cleansing clay mask, a radiance boosting mask is a staple in my skincare routine. This type of product is generally about chemical exfoliation – encouraging cell turnover, and removing dead skin cells to reveal clearer and brighter skin beneath. These three offer instant results; I leave them on for 10 minutes, remove with a face-cloth and marvel at my post-pampering glow!

ONE: The Merumaya Pure Radiance Mask is lovely.  As you can see from the pic (top), it’s quite creamy, as there’s a little bit of clay in the mix. The exfoliating action comes from the active enzymes in kombuchka (which I first knew of as a health drink, way back when), and there are several other actives in the mix. This leaves my skin feeling soft, clean, bright and more even-toned and the price, €24.50 from Arnotts.ie, is very accessible given the quality of the product.

But you won’t find it in Ireland for long – sadly, they’re exiting Arnotts which makes me sad, because I’ve come to genuinely love this brand. But I can still get my fix from their website: Merumaya will be dropping their shipping rates to Ireland so they match with the UK. Currently postage and packaging is £10, as it is for the rest of Europe, but it will be lowered to £3.95 (or free, with orders over £40.) And, as an added sweetener, there’s an offer running till March 31st where you’ll get a free 10ml Skin Brightening Exfoliating Peel with any purchase.

TWO: Ren's Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask uses natural fruit acids to gently remove the surface layer of dead skin cells, encourage cell turnover and soften out fine lines. On occasion, it tingles, which I like as I know something’s working (although if you’re sensitive skinned, this isn’t the mask for you).

Brilliant for congested and acne prone skin, this leaves skin brighter and more even-toned.  And just like everything from the brand, you won’t find any parabens, sulphates, mineral oils, silicones, artificial colours or fragrances in the mix. Find it on Look Fantastic for €36.91, including free delivery.

THREE: I’ve been using this Eminence Sugar Plum Revitalising Masque, €58.00, since my trip to Nuala Woulfe’s Serenity Day Spa. I’m really enjoying this organic, Hungarian line and am keen to try more.

Suitable for all skin-types, this is more about nourishing and healing than it is about chemical exfoliation, laden as it is with plum juice and puree, honey and glycerine –it smells like it should be spread on a scone, and instantly inhaled.

But it also contains an antioxidant combo including vitamins, Q10 and Alpha Lipoic Acid, and the latter does have some sloughing properties – making this a great pick for more sensitive or easily irritated skin.

Tried any of these? And please, share your favourites - I'm working my way through a list!
