Wax On, Wax Off, Waxperts: The Review

These days, laser is my hair removal of choice but I've been interested in reports of Waxperts, a dedicated waxing salon in Dun Laoghaire run by the charming Ellen Kavanagh (who I don't know, but enjoy following on Twitter.) So I've enlisted my hilarious, outspoken and nifty-with-a-cat-flick pal,  Dena , to check it out and report back. Here's how she got on.

There’s not much that my friends and I don’t or won’t talk about over drinks and, if I’m honest, it’s not rare for the conversation to end up somewhere around our vaginas.

On one such night, having just returned from a six-month spell in Asia, I admitted how, while away, I had become inexplicably terrified about getting my hair seen to professionally (upstairs AND downstairs).

I let slip that I’d just been giving my lady bits a regular shave to keep it all in check, when one of my friends gloated that she’d just been for her regular visit to Waxperts in Dun Laoghaire and her vagina was now “all lovely and smooth!”

Clearly I looked a bit envious, as Emma then piped up and asked if I’d like to do a review of Waxperts for her blog. “Hell yes!” said my bush and I.

So I popped along to the salon on George Street Lower, Dun Laoghaire, to see if it was really as pain-free and fantastic as my friend had said. On arrival I was greeted by Trish who showed me into a lovely treatment room that was decorated with the same hint of vintage glamour that runs throughout the whole salon. It was clean, spacious, comfortable and super tidy, which, oddly, are not things that are ever present in beauty salons.

After all the prep bits were done (you know the ones!), Trish came back in and we got down to business, so to speak. Now, I’ve been through my Hollywood and Brazilian phases and no longer do I want to look like a 12 year old or for my vagina to resemble Hitler (which they totally do with a Brazilian imho), so I opted for the extended bikini wax.

I can’t tell you how happy I was with the results. It was all about as close to pain free as I could have ever imagined. No mean feat after months of shaving! Trish was quick, thorough and is just absolutely lovely. Waxperts’ policy of never “double dipping” is fantastic too as there have been none of the horrid red bumps that can appear after a day or two either.

Would I recommend Waxperts? That’s a resounding yes. Prices go from €20 for a basic to €65 for the Vegas (Hollywood plus Swarovski crystal embellishments) and only €40 for a whole leg. I've already booked my next appointment and have readily joined my friends among the ranks of gloating Waxperts customers.

Dena was a guest of the salon; check out the Waxperts website for more.
